How can I get more energy? I hear this all the time. The truth is, there are as many ways to get more energy as there are articles on the subject. But what makes the Three Pillars of Energy CreationTM different than your standard get more energy approach is it goes beyond what to eat or how to exercise. It supports long-term, sustainable energy.
If you are new here, let me review, the Three Pillars of Energy CreationTM are as follows:
Fuel Your Body
Fuel Your Mind
Live Your Purpose
Last week I covered how to fuel your body to create a foundation for getting more energy. As I have learned from coaching dozens of people, green juice and raw foods is not enough.
I remember one of my first clients. She was eating “perfectly.” Yet she couldn’t boost her energy or budge the scale. As we continued to work together, it became clear she didn’t believe she deserved to feel better. Once we discovered that, her “negative nelly” attitude made perfect sense. Nothing was going to make her feel better – no diet, no detox, no exercise plan – until we addressed her mindset and emotional state.
How Mindset Affects Your Energy
Imagine that every thought you think is a message to every one of the trillion plus cells in your body. Now imagine that every 10 minutes you have a thought similar to this: “I suck”, “I’ll never be happy”, or “I’m a fat and lazy loser”.
With thoughts like that, you’ll be right.
Of course, you don’t suck, you can be happy and you aren’t a fat and lazy loser. But if you continue to have these thoughts; if you continue to focus on what is not going right in your life, you attract what you don’t want.
It’s a universal truth that we get what we focus on. This isn’t just some woo-woo, law of attraction mumbo jumbo. You’ve seen this happen in your own life.
One morning you wake up grumpy because the alarm went off too early, then you stubbed your toe, spilled your coffee and had your hot water heater go out on you. Not a great start to the day, and you haven’t even left the house yet. So what happens when you keep telling yourself what an awful day this is going to be? Well, you’re either late to work, get in a fender bender or get yelled at by your boss. In a weird sort of way, by focusing on all that has gone bad that day, you manifest more of it.
WAIT – I manifested a bad day?!
I know that sounds odd, but it’s true. We get what we focus on. The work of Bruce Lipton shows us “each cell is an intelligent being that can survive on its own, as scientists demonstrate when they remove individual cells from the body and grow them in a culture.” He goes on to show in his book, the Biology of Belief, every thought we think is stored in our cells and is an instruction. This is how people can die of a broken heart. Or land a perfect 10 vault with a sprained ankle. Or how millions of people can walk on fire without getting burned. It all comes down to the power of the mind.
So if we create energy from the cellular level, it’s not only important to fuel our cells with good food, but it’s important to fuel them with positive, energizing thoughts. Yes, I’m suggesting changing the way you think to get more energy.
Intuitively you know this. You feel better when you’re positive. So let’s make that happen.
Where Do I Buy Positive?
Of course you can’t buy a can of positive at your local store. Positive mindset isn’t something you get overnight. A positive, energized mindset has to be cultivated. It’s like a garden. You till the soil, remove the weeds, plant the seeds, remove more weeds, water, remove more weeds and so on until your thoughts bear fruit.
So if things aren’t going well in your life, how do you get positive? How to you mentally get energized? And when you are having a bad day, how do you get out of the spiral so you don’t end up at the bottom of a carton of energy zapping ice cream?
5 Quick and Easy Tips For Thinking Your Way To More Energy
1. Be grateful. Everyday write down three different things you are grateful for that day. You will begin to focus on the positive in your life, and shift away from the negative.
2. Grab some tunes. Music is a powerful energy creator. Create a playlist of your favorite, heart thumping tunes. Think of it as your Mind Energizing Playlist. Play it every morning for at least ten minutes or as needed throughout the day. Some of my favorite tunes? Just Dance by Lady Gaga and I Gotta Feeling by The Black Eyed Peas.
3. Play solitary. Not the kind with cards, but true solitude. We get pulled in a lot of different directions and have a lot of input everyday. We need to clear the mental and physical space to make way for more energy. This can only be done in solitude. Need assistance in how to get some solitude in your life? Check out my 5-week e-course, Solitude: A Radical Self-Care Tool for Chronic Wellness.Of course, these are just the quick and easy tips. Like constantly pulling the weeds from a garden, you must dig deep and remove the negative thoughts, limiting beliefs and rules that hold you back from experiencing energy, happiness and vitality.
Getting more energy is as much an inside game as it is an outside game of what we do and eat. That means we have to love our self to have unbounded, limitless energy. Without self love, we won’t lift a finger to feel better. That means we have to discard those limiting beliefs and engage in radical self-care – putting ourselves first, without being selfish. That of course, requires a paradigm shift. But more on that another day.
